Journey to Become a Bagpiper
A bagpiper’s journey begins with a practice chanter, a tutor book and a teacher. The practice chanter is something that you will use your entire piping career. Everytime you want to work on your fingerings, learn a new tune or practice at 2am, you will use your practice chanter for this. The practice chanter is a much softer sounding instrument and it is important to learn how to finger the instrument before you add the full bagpipes to the mix. We offer two Beginner specials: the first includes: McCallum long polypenco practice chanter, McCallum practice chanter reed and Sandy Jones “Beginning Bagpipe” book all for only $80.00. The second is a McCallum long polypenco practice chanter, McCallum practice chanter reed, John Cairns "Bagpipe Solutions" vol. 1 book & CD all for only $100.00. You will find this listed under “Practice Chanters”. I also offer lessons for $30/hour. I have been around piping my entire life starting with my grandfather.
After your teacher feels that you are ready, you will buy a set of pipes. This usually occurs after 6 months to a year of being solely on practice chanter. We at The Scottish Piper sell a variety of bagpipes including: Dunbar, Gibson, McCallum, Naill and Wallace. All of these bagpipes are truly wonderful. Feel free to send me a note with any questions that you might have.
I wish you all the success in the world with your bagpiping!
Good Luck,
Lauree
