For New Pipers

Hello to the new pipers.  I understand how overwhelming piping can be and so I'm going to try to use my 30+ years of experience with piping combined with my Masters of Music degree to help give advice on piping, and sometimes music in general.  I will continue to add to this.  Feel free to contact me at anytime with any questions.

  • No one will ever live long enough to know everything there is to know about music, therefore only learn what you need to get you through the next day.  In other words, just take bite sizes.
  • Difference Between standard and long practice chanters is that the long chanters have the same hole spacing as the bagpipes. The long chanters also have counter sunk holes.  When I first began piping all they had was the standard chanters and nothing was plastic.  With standard chanters, it causing your fingers to be really close together.  Most pipers prefer the long chanters because it's easier to go from the chanter to the pipes.
  • Very, very important.  Always contact someone who knows about bagpipes for their advice before you buy a set.

Lessons are available with Lauree Palmer, please call (314) 805-1218 or e-mail lauree@thescottishpiper.net
